Which Country Exports the Most Acyclic Hydrocarbons in the World?

Global acyclic hydrocarbon exports stood at 20M tonnes in 2016, reducing by -10.9% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 10% y-o-y. Global acyclic hydrocarbon export peaked of 22M tonnes in 2015, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbon exports amounted to $17B in 2016. Overall, acyclic hydrocarbon exports continue to indicate a mild decrease. Over the period under review, global acyclic hydrocarbon exports reached its maximum level of $28B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Acyclic Hydrocarbon Exports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of acyclic hydrocarbon exports in 2016 were South Korea (3M tonnes), Russia (2.7M tonnes), the Netherlands (2.4M tonnes), Japan (1.7M tonnes), the UK (1.2M tonnes), Germany (1.2M tonnes), Canada (1.1M tonnes), Belgium (930K tonnes), Italy (681K tonnes), Saudi Arabia (656K tonnes), Singapore (467K tonnes), and Brazil (430K tonnes), together reaching 83% of total export.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acyclic hydrocarbon exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Russia (+17.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest acyclic hydrocarbon markets worldwide were South Korea ($2.3B), the Netherlands ($1.8B) and Japan ($1.4B), together comprising 33% of global exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Germany, Belgium, Russia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Singapore and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 36%.

Singapore (+8.5% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the acyclic hydrocarbon exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Acyclic Hydrocarbon Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for acyclic hydrocarbon amounted to $841 per tonne, rising by 6% against the previous year. Overall, acyclic hydrocarbon export price continues to indicate a moderate descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when export increased by 40% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, average acyclic hydrocarbon export price reached its maximum level of $1,373 per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Singapore ($932 per tonne), while Russia ($280 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acyclic hydrocarbon export prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+4.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
