Global palm kernel consumption amounted to 16,232 thousand tonnes in 2015, growing by +5.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the global palm kernel consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +10% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global palm kernel consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Palm Kernels Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were Indonesia (17,127 thousand tonnes), Malaysia (10,002 thousand tonnes), Thailand (862 thousand tonnes), together making up 87% of total consumption. They were followed by Colombia with a 2% of global consumption share and Nigeria with a 2% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of palm kernel consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by Indonesia (+9.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The highest levels of palm kernel per capita consumption was registered in Malaysia (329.75 kg/year), followed by Indonesia (66.49 kg/year), Thailand (12.68 kg/year), Colombia (10.50 kg/year) and Nigeria (2.66 kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of palm kernel was estimated at 15.88 kg/year in 2015.

In Indonesia, per capita palm kernel consumption has grown noticably (+7.9% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Indonesia per capita consumption reached 329.75 kg/year as compared with 36.25 kg/year in 2007.
