Global sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption amounted to 15,946 thousand tonnes in 2015, remaining constant against the previous year level. Overall, the global sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption attained its maximum volume of 15,949 thousand tonnes in 2014. From 2015 to 2015, the total sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption growth failed to regain its strength.

Global Sunflower-Seed And Safflower Oil Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were Ukraine (4,466 thousand tonnes), Russia (4,121 thousand tonnes), Turkey (723 thousand tonnes), together making up 59% of total consumption. They were followed by Hungary with a 4% of global consumption share and France with a 4% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by Ukraine (+9.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Per capita sunflower-seed and safflower oil in Ukraine was estimated at 99.63 kg/year, much higher than the global average of 5.74 kg/year. Ukraine was the leading country in terms of per capita consumption, among the main consumers of sunflower-seed and safflower oil, followed by Hungary (67.00 kg/year), Russia (28.73 kg/year), France (9.98 kg/year) and Turkey (9.19 kg/year).

In Hungary, per capita sunflower-seed and safflower oil consumption has grown noticably (+12.4% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Hungary per capita consumption reached 99.63 kg/year as compared with 26.39 kg/year in 2007.
