Which Country Consumes the Most Natural Rubber And Gums in the World?

Global natural rubber and gum consumption amounted to 13,208 thousand tonnes in 2015, moving up by +4.5% against the previous year level. Overall, the global natural rubber and gum consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global natural rubber and gum consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Natural Rubber And Gums Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were Thailand (4,737 thousand tonnes), Indonesia (3,232 thousand tonnes), Viet Nam (1,012 thousand tonnes), together mixed up 65% of total consumption. They were followed by India with a 7% of global consumption share and China with a 6% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of natural rubber and gum consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by Viet Nam (+6.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Per capita natural rubber and gum in Thailand was estimated at 69.70 kg/year, much higher than the global average of 5.98 kg/year. Thailand was the leading country in terms of per capita consumption, among the main consumers of natural rubber and gum, followed by Indonesia (12.55 kg/year), Viet Nam (10.83 kg/year), India (0.73 kg/year) and China (0.62 kg/year).

In Viet Nam, per capita natural rubber and gum consumption has grown noticably (+5.5% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Viet Nam per capita consumption reached 69.70 kg/year as compared with 7.06 kg/year in 2007.
