Global mango and mangosteen consumption amounted to 47,726 thousand tonnes in 2015, surging by +5.5% against the previous year level. Overall, the global mango and mangosteen consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global mango and mangosteen consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Mangoes, Mangosteens And Guavas Consumption

With nearly 19,778 thousand tonnes, India became the world’s leading mango and mangosteen consuming country, mixed up 41% of global consumption. The other major consumers were China (4,778 thousand tonnes) and Thailand (3,740 thousand tonnes), with a share of 10% and 8%, respectively. Moreover, mango and mangosteen consumption in India surpassed the figures recorded by China fourfold. They were followed by Indonesia with a 5% of global consumption share and Mexico with a 4% share.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of mango and mangosteen consumption in India stood at +4.7%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: China (+3.2% per year) and Thailand (+6.3% per year).

The highest levels of mango, mangosteen and guava per capita consumption was registered in Thailand (55.03 kg/year), followed by India (15.09 kg/year), Mexico (14.17 kg/year), Indonesia (9.27 kg/year) and China (3.40 kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of mango, mangosteen and guava was estimated at 6.78 kg/year in 2015.

In Thailand, per capita mango, mangosteen and guava consumption has grown noticably (+5.9% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Thailand per capita consumption reached 55.03 kg/year as compared with 34.70 kg/year in 2007.
