Which Country Consumes the Most Cauliflower And Broccoli in the World?

Global cauliflower and broccoli consumption amounted to 24,378 thousand tonnes in 2015, ascending by +2.0% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cauliflower and broccoli consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +5% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cauliflower and broccoli consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Cauliflower And Broccoli Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were China (9,401 thousand tonnes), India (9,161 thousand tonnes), the United States (1,233 thousand tonnes), together mixed up 79% of total consumption. They were followed by Italy with a 1% of global consumption share and Mexico with a 1% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of cauliflower and broccoli consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by India (+6.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The highest levels of cauliflower and broccoli per capita consumption was registered in India (6.99 kg/year), followed by China (6.68 kg/year), Italy (5.75 kg/year), the United States (3.83 kg/year) and Mexico (2.66 kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of cauliflower and broccoli was estimated at 1.49 kg/year in 2015.

In India, per capita cauliflower and broccoli consumption has grown noticably (+5.1% per year) in recent years. In 2015, India per capita consumption reached 6.99 kg/year as compared with 4.69 kg/year in 2007.
