Global brazil nut consumption amounted to 112 thousand tonnes in 2015, increasing by +2.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global brazil nut consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +10% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global brazil nut consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Brazil Nuts Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were Bolivia (48 thousand tonnes), Brazil (39 thousand tonnes), Côte D'Ivoire (17 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 93% of total consumption. They were followed by Peru with a 5% of global consumption share and Gambia with a 2% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of brazil nut consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by Côte D'Ivoire (+4.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Per capita brazil nut in Bolivia was estimated at 4.46 kg/year, much higher than the global average of 1.16 kg/year. Bolivia was the leading country in terms of per capita consumption, among the main consumers of brazil nut, followed by Gambia (1.35 kg/year), Côte D'Ivoire (0.76 kg/year), Brazil (0.19 kg/year) and Peru (0.18 kg/year).

In Gambia, per capita brazil nut consumption has grown noticably (+30.2% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Gambia per capita consumption reached 4.46 kg/year as compared with 0.00 kg/year in 2007.
