Global pyrethrum market production was estimated at 21,204 thousand USD in 2015, which was 3,777 thousand USD more than in 2014, and 177 thousand USD (or 1%) less than the peak production level recorded in 2008.

Area harvested of pyrethrum fluctuated over period under review. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by growth over the next four years, until area harvested started to decrease in 2013-2015. In 2015, area harvested increased to 26,703 Ha.

From 2008 to 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, the yield showed negative dynamics, with an average growth rate at 4.7 tonnes/Ha. In 2015, it stood at 424 tonnes/Ha.

Tanzania (6,986 tonnes) was the country with the largest production of pyrethrum in absolute volume. It was followed by Papua New Guinea (1,150 tonnes), Kenya (350 tonnes), and Italy (300 tonnes), which together accounted for 95% of total production.

Tanzania (+16.2% per year) attained the most notable growth rate in pyrethrum production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2015, while the other three global leaders (Papua New Guinea, Kenya, and Italy) experienced more modest paces of growth.
