The volume of total imports on the global soya bean market in 2015 stood at 121 million tonnes. There was an annual increase of +7.5% for the period from 2008 to 2015. In value terms, imports of soya beans dropped to 52 billion USD in 2015, which was 13 billion USD (20%) less than the year before.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, China (82 million tonnes) was the main destination of soya beans imports, making up 68% of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands (5 million tonnes), Mexico (4 million tonnes) and Germany (4 million tonnes)

From 2008 to 2015, China had the highest growth rates of imports, with a CAGR of +11.8%. It was followed by the Netherlands (+2.0%), Mexico (+1.5%), and Germany (+1.1%).

China significantly strengthened its position in the global import structure from 51% in 2008 to 68% in 2015, while Mexico and the Netherlands reduced their shares. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
