Which Countries Consume the Most Headphones?

The global headphone market had total revenues of 11,395 million USD in 2015, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of +1.3% from 2007 to 2015.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, China became the global leading headphone consumer with nearly 4,200 million USD worth of headphones. Per capita headphone consumption in China was estimated at 3.0 USD/year, which was higher than the global average (1.6 USD/year).

The U.S. (30%) takes second place in the global headphone consumption structure. Furthermore, the U.S. also ranks second in the production structure. Many positive developments are taking place in the headphone industry in the U.S. Even though imports from Asia mostly satisfy the domestic demand for headphones, U.S. industry has found many opportunities to grow over the past five years as the retail demand for premium headphones surged during this period.

From 2007 to 2015, global headphone consumption grew by +1.3% annually. India, with +20.7% growth, Sweden (+9.9%), Russia (+7.7%), and Canada (+7.4%) recorded the highest annual growth rates of headphone consumption from 2007 to 2015.

Norway (12.7 USD/year), Sweden (11.4 USD/year), the U.S. (10.6 USD/year) and Japan (9.1 USD/year) registered the highest levels of headphone consumption. Russia (0.6 USD/year) and India (0.1 USD/year) had the lowest levels of headphone consumption.
