From 2007 to 2015, the global coconut market volume remained relatively stable in physical terms, despite the slight negative trend pattern observed in recent years. In 2015, the market amounted to 60,644 thousand tonnes. In value terms, the market showed a growth with fluctuations, equaling 12,073 million USD in 2015.

The countries with the highest consumption, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, were Indonesia (29%) and Philippines (25%), followed by India (18%), Brazil (5%) and Sri Lanka (4%), together comprising almost 81% of global consumption.

The highest annual growth rates of coconut consumption from 2007 to 2015 were recorded in Sri Lanka, with a +1.9% growth.

Amongst the leading consuming countries, high levels of per capita consumption were recorded in the Philippines (148.4 kg/person) and Sri Lanka (122.3 kg/year in 2015) - these figures were significantly higher than the world average of 8.3 kg/year. The annual growth of per capita consumption from 2007 to 2015 was the most notable in Sri Lanka, with +1.3% growth.
