U.S. Wheelchair Import Price June 2022
In June 2022, the average wheelchair import price amounted to $160 per unit, shrinking by -3.1% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 25% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $175 per unit. From April 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($551 per unit), while the price for China ($117 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Wheelchair Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled ($589 per unit), while the price for invalid carriages not mechanically propelled amounted to $105 per unit.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by invalid carriage (+2.9%).
U.S. Wheelchair Imports
In June 2022, imports of wheelchairs into the United States soared to 199K units, picking up by 19% compared with May 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. Imports peaked at 240K units in January 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2022.
In value terms, wheelchair imports surged to $32M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $32M in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to June 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Wheelchair Imports by Type
In June 2022, invalid carriages not mechanically propelled (177K units) constituted the largest type of wheelchair supplied to the United States, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, invalid carriages not mechanically propelled exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled (23K units), eightfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of invalid carriages not mechanically propelled totaled -4.1%.
In value terms, the most traded types of wheelchairs in the United States were invalid carriages not mechanically propelled ($19M) and invalid carriages motorised or mechanically propelled ($13M).
U.S. Wheelchair Imports by Country
In June 2022, China (180K units) was the main supplier of wheelchair to the United States, accounting for a 90% share of total imports. Moreover, wheelchair imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (9K units), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+1.3% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+27.3% per month).
In value terms, China ($21M) constituted the largest supplier of wheelchair to the United States, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($3.6M), with an 11% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+1.4% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+21.1% per month).
