U.S. Wheat Export Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the wheat price per ton stood at $449 (FOB, US) in June 2022, surging by 4.4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 an increase of 11% against the previous month. The export price peaked in June 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In June 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Ethiopia ($496 per ton) and Ecuador ($484 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($400 per ton) and Colombia ($412 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Wheat Exports
In June 2022, the amount of wheat exported from the United States skyrocketed to 1.6M tons, growing by 17% against May 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The exports peaked at 1.9M tons in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to June 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wheat exports surged to $715M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $751M in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Wheat Exports by Country
Mexico (336K tons), the Philippines (256K tons) and Japan (135K tons) were the main destinations of wheat exports from the United States, together accounting for 46% of total exports. Nigeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand, El Salvador, Yemen, Ecuador, Honduras and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Honduras (with a CAGR of +57.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($157M), the Philippines ($112M) and Japan ($63M) were the largest markets for wheat exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 47% share of total exports. Nigeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Taiwan (Chinese), Ecuador, Thailand, El Salvador, Honduras, Yemen and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.
Among the main countries of destination, Honduras, with a CAGR of +66.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
