Over the period from Jan 2022 to May 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($963 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($552 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Wheat Flour Imports

In May 2022, imports of wheat and meslin flour into the United States surged to 29K tons, jumping by 17% on Apr 2022. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the period from Jan 2022 to May 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain months. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wheat and meslin flour imports surged to $25M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.7% over the period from Jan 2022 to May 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain months. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Canada (14K tons), India (7.2K tons) and Italy (3.2K tons) were the main suppliers of wheat and meslin flour imports to the United States, with a combined 85% share of total imports.

From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +17.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($13M), India ($6.4M) and Italy ($2.5M) constituted the largest wheat and meslin flour suppliers to the United States, with a combined 85% share of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 8.5%.
