France, Latvia and the Netherlands Head the List of Leading Wallpaper Importers in the EU
IndexBox has just published a new report: 'EU - Wallpaper And Wall Coverings - Market Analysis, Forecast, Size, Trends And Insights'. Here is a summary of the report's key findings.
In 2020, total imports of wallpaper and wall coverings in the EU stood at $361M. France, Latvia and the Netherlands emerged as the top-importers of wallpaper and wall coverings in the EU. Latvia featured the highest spike in imports in 2020. Germany, Belgium and Italy were the major suppliers to France. Ukraine dominated the Latvian imports, while most products imported to the Netherlands came from the UK and Germany.
Imports of Wallpaper and Wall Coverings in the EU
In 2020, the amount of wallpaper and wall coverings imported in the EU reduced modestly to 61K tonnes, flattening at the previous year's figure. In value terms, wallpaper imports dropped to $361M (IndexBox estimates) in 2020.
France represented the key importer of wallpaper and wall coverings in the EU, with the volume of imports finishing at 17K tonnes, which was approx. 28% of total imports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Latvia (8.1K tonnes), the Netherlands (7K tonnes), Germany (5.9K tonnes), Poland (4.2K tonnes) and Belgium (3.2K tonnes), together committing a 46% share of total imports. The following importers - Lithuania (1.9K tonnes), the Czech Republic (1.7K tonnes), Spain (1.6K tonnes), Hungary (1.6K tonnes), Sweden (1.2K tonnes), Romania (1.1K tonnes) and Italy (1K tonnes) - together made up 16% of total imports.
Over the last year, Latvia (+45.3%), Germany (+21.3%), Hungary (+19.0%), the Czech Republic (+17.9%), the Netherlands (+17.5%) and Romania (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the EU. By contrast, France (-11.2%), Poland (-2.0%), Belgium (-3.4%), Sweden (-5.6%), Lithuania (-6.1%), Spain (-9.4%) and Italy (-32.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
In value terms, France ($106M) constitutes the largest market for imported wallpaper and wall coverings in the EU, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($40M), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.9% share.
In 2020, the wallpaper import price in the European Union amounted to $5,917 per tonne, remaining stable against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Italy ($11,245 per tonne), while Latvia ($2,898 per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
Major Wallpaper Suppliers to France
In 2020, Germany (11K tonnes) constituted the largest wallpaper supplier to France, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, wallpaper imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (3.3K tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (1.1K tonnes), with a 6.4% share.
In value terms, Germany ($54M) constituted the largest supplier of wallpaper to France, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Belgium ($22M), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 9% share.
Major Wallpaper Suppliers to Latvia
In 2020, Ukraine (6.8K tonnes) constituted the largest wallpaper supplier to Latvia, accounting for an 85% share of total imports. Moreover, wallpaper imports from Ukraine exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (450 tonnes), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Lithuania (232 tonnes), with a 2.9% share.
In value terms, Ukraine ($18M) constituted the largest supplier of wallpaper to Latvia, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($1.9M), with an 8.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 4.1% share.
Major Wallpaper Suppliers to the Netherlands
The UK (1.9K tonnes), Germany (1.4K tonnes) and Belgium (1.3K tonnes) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 77% of total imports. France, South Korea, China and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
In value terms, the largest wallpaper suppliers to the Netherlands were Germany ($11M), the UK ($9M) and Belgium ($6.4M), together accounting for 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, China, Italy and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 21%.
