U.S. Wood Kitchen Cabinet Import Declines 6%, Averaging 5.2M Units in November 2022

U.S. Wood Kitchen Cabinet Imports

Wood kitchen cabinet imports into the United States declined to 5.2M units in November 2022, waning by -6.2% against October 2022 figures. Overall, imports recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 25% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 6.1M units in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to November 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood kitchen cabinet imports shrank to $197M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 35% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 232M units in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to November 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In November 2022, Vietnam (1.6M units) constituted the largest wood kitchen cabinet supplier to the United States, with a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, wood kitchen cabinet imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (685K units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (682K units), with a 13% share.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Vietnam stood at -3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+4.6% per month) and Malaysia (-3.2% per month).

In value terms, Vietnam ($66M) constituted the largest supplier of wood kitchen cabinet to the United States, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($32M), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 13% share.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam stood at +2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+1.3% per month) and Mexico (+0.9% per month).

Import Prices by Country

In November 2022, the wood kitchen cabinet price amounted to $37.8 per unit (CIF, US), with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous month. Over the last ten-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 12% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $41.7 per unit in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to November 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($60.8 per unit), while the price for Poland ($14.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
