U.S. Unsaturated Acyclic Hydrocarbons Export Increases Notably to 62K Tons in November 2022
U.S. Unsaturated Acyclic Hydrocarbons Exports
For the third month in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas shipments of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons, which increased by 5.2% to 62K tons in November 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 with an increase of 28% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 79K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to November 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports dropped modestly to $91M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when exports increased by 41% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 124K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to November 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (9.9K tons), India (6.4K tons) and Canada (6.3K tons) were the main destinations of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exports from the United States, together accounting for 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, South Korea, Spain, the Netherlands, France, China, Argentina, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan (Chinese) and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 57%.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +11.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($17M), South Korea ($9.6M) and Canada ($9.5M) were the largest markets for unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 40% of total exports. Spain, India, Italy, France, Argentina, the Netherlands, China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan (Chinese) and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 51%.
India, with a CAGR of +3.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In November 2022, the unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons price stood at $1,466 per ton (FOB, US), with a decrease of -9.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,755 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to November 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2022, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($2,422 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,015 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
