In February 2023, approximately 631 tons of iron and steel pipes and tubes were imported into the United States; rising by 61% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when imports increased by 119% against the previous month.
In value terms, iron and steel pipe imports skyrocketed to $1.9M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Overall, imports enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 222% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.8M. From June 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Canada (276 tons), Mexico (250 tons) and Vietnam (67 tons) were the main suppliers of iron and steel pipe imports to the United States, together comprising 94% of total imports.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($862K), Canada ($853K) and Vietnam ($76K) appeared to be the largest iron and steel pipe suppliers to the United States, with a combined 97% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +21.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
In February 2023, the iron and steel pipe price stood at $2,940 per ton (CIF, US), reducing by -5.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3,733 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to February 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,451 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
