Baby Food Export in United States Surges 103% to New Record of $33M in March 2023
U.S. Baby Food Exports
In March 2023, baby food exports from the United States soared to 3.3K tons, rising by 94% against the previous month. In general, exports, however, saw a mild decline.
In value terms, baby food exports soared to $33M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
Canada (2.7K tons) was the main destination for baby food exports from the United States, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, baby food exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (122 tons), more than tenfold. Colombia (90 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.7% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Canada was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+3.3% per month) and Colombia (+9.7% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($28M) remains the key foreign market for baby food exports from the United States, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($677K), with a 2% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 2% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value to Canada was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Colombia (+10.5% per month) and the Dominican Republic (-9.3% per month).
Export Prices by Country
In March 2023, the baby food price stood at $10,114 per ton (FOB, US), increasing by 4.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 35% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $11,379 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to March 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($10,533 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($3,973 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
