Turkey's Price of Whole Frozen Chicken Up 2% to $1,421/Ton
Turkey Frozen Whole Chicken Export Price in December 2022
In December 2022, the frozen whole chicken price amounted to $1,421 per ton (FOB, Turkey), picking up by 1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,881 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Mauritania ($1,593 per ton) and Georgia ($1,474 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($1,301 per ton) and Iran ($1,333 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Congo (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Turkey Frozen Whole Chicken Exports
In December 2022, after three months of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of frozen whole chickens, when their volume decreased by -2% to 32K tons. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 25% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 35K tons in December 2021; however, from January 2022 to December 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, frozen whole chicken exports dropped to $46M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 25% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 57K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to December 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Turkey Frozen Whole Chicken Exports by Country
Iraq (24K tons) was the main destination for frozen whole chicken exports from Turkey, with a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen whole chicken exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Congo (2K tons), more than tenfold. Iran (1.4K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.3% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq stood at +3.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Congo (-1.9% per month) and Iran (-14.9% per month).
In value terms, Iraq ($34M) remains the key foreign market for frozen whole chicken exports from Turkey, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Congo ($2.7M), with a 5.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Iran, with a 4% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Iraq amounted to +2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Congo (-1.0% per month) and Iran (-16.6% per month).
