Toluene Price in America Constitutes $844 per Ton After Sharp Fluctuations
U.S. Toluene Import Price per Ton July 2022
In July 2022, the toluene price per ton stood at $844, increasing by 33% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from January 2022 to July 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last six months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2022 figures, toluene import price decreased by -20.3% against May 2022 indices. The import price peaked at $1,060 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to July 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,265 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($336 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+106.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Toluene Imports
In July 2022, purchases abroad of toluene increased by 67% to 55K tons, rising for the second month in a row after two months of decline. Overall, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 7,361% month-to-month. Imports peaked in July 2022.
In value terms, toluene imports skyrocketed to $46M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 6,099% month-to-month. Imports peaked in July 2022.
U.S. Toluene Imports by Country
South Korea (22K tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (17K tons) and Colombia (8.4K tons) were the main suppliers of toluene imports to the United States, together accounting for 87% of total imports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +184.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($28M) constituted the largest supplier of toluene to the United States, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($9M), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from South Korea totaled +356.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Spain (+22.7% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-7.5% per month).
