Organic Almond Market - Spain Strengthened Its Leadership in Organic Almond Supplies to the U.S.

U.S. organic almond imports amounted to 59 thousand USD in 2015, soaring over the last two years. However, it is likely to slow down in 2016, because import value from Jan-Oct 2016 was 25% lower against the same period of the previous year.

According to IndexBox estimates, Spain dominates in the supplies of organic almonds to the U.S. market. In 2015, organic almond imports from Spain totaled 29 million USD, which accounted for an approx. 70% share in terms of U.S. imports. Italy was another key supplier of organic almonds in 2015, with a 30% combined share of total organic imports.

Spain significantly strengthened its position on the U.S. organic almond market, growing its share in total imports from 51% in 2013 to 69% in 2015. Meanwhile, the share of Italy reduced proportionally, meaning that Italian suppliers gave way to Spanish in terms of organic almond supplies to the U.S.

The average import price for organic almonds was 12.1 USD per kg in 2015. Import prices for organic almonds grew by +16% annually from 2013 to 2015. Import prices did not vary considerably by country of origin. Spain (12.0 USD/kg) was a bit lower priced country of origin, while average price for Italian organic almonds (12.4 USD/kg) was slightly higher.
