Newsprint Price in Spain Contracts for Three Consecutive Months to $991 per Ton
Spain Newsprint Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the newsprint price per ton stood at $990.5 (CIF, Spain), with a decrease of -4.4% against the previous month. Over the last seven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 21% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1.1K per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Portugal ($1.7K per ton), while the price for Canada ($838.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+45.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spain Newsprint Imports
Newsprint imports into Spain surged to 7.5K tons in August 2022, growing by 16% compared with the month before. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, newsprint imports rose markedly to $7.5M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 24% m-o-m.
Spain Newsprint Imports by Country
Belgium (1.8K tons), France (1.5K tons) and Canada (1.5K tons) were the main suppliers of newsprint imports to Spain, with a combined 64% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Canada (with a CAGR of +19.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($1.7M), France ($1.5M) and Germany ($1.3M) were the largest newsprint suppliers to Spain, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Canada, Finland, Sweden and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Canada, with a CAGR of +25.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
