Spain's Hair Lotion and Preparation Price Declines 3% to $7,136 per Ton

Spain Hair Lotion and Preparation Export Price in November 2022

In November 2022, the hair lotion and preparation price stood at $7,136 per ton (FOB, Spain), reducing by -3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 23% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,637 per ton. From June 2022 to November 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($12,651 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($2,536 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Hair lotion and preparation exports from Spain skyrocketed to 6.8K tons in November 2022, increasing by 16% against October 2022 figures. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% from January 2022 to November 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when exports increased by 20% against the previous month. The exports peaked in November 2022.

In value terms, hair lotion and preparation exports expanded rapidly to $49M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the period from January 2022 to November 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when exports increased by 17% m-o-m. The exports peaked in November 2022.

Spain Hair Lotion and Preparation Exports by Country

France (1.5K tons) was the main destination for hair lotion and preparation exports from Spain, accounting for a 23% share of total exports. Moreover, hair lotion and preparation exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Portugal (587 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (485 tons), with a 7.1% share.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to France totaled +7.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Portugal (+7.1% per month) and the Netherlands (+4.9% per month).

In value terms, France ($8.4M) remains the key foreign market for hair lotion and preparation exports from Spain, comprising 17% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($3.8M), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 7.8% share.

From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to France totaled +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the United States (+5.4% per month) and Portugal (+2.8% per month).

The market for hair lotion in Spain is relatively fragmented, with a large number of brands competing for a share of the market. The top three brands in the haircare segment in Spain are Head & Shoulders, Pantene, and Garnier. However, there are many other smaller brands that are gaining popularity as well. According to the IndexBox's report, conditioners account for the highest share of the haircare market in Spain, followed by hair colorants and styling agents.

In terms of distribution, the majority of sales for hair lotion in Spain come from supermarkets and hypermarkets. These stores account for 48.6% of the total sales volume.
