Spain's Fish Fillet Prices Drop to $6,334/Ton
Spain Frozen Fish Fillet Import Price in January 2023
In January 2023, the frozen fish fillet price amounted to $6,334 per ton (CIF, Spain), falling by -6.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 an increase of 7.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $7,230 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to January 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($9,599 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($3,636 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Spain Frozen Fish Fillet Imports
In January 2023, overseas purchases of frozen fish fillet were finally on the rise to reach 8.8K tons after four months of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when imports increased by 20% against the previous month.
In value terms, frozen fish fillet imports expanded to $56M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when imports increased by 28% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $74M. From September 2022 to January 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Spain Frozen Fish Fillet Imports by Country
China (2K tons), the Netherlands (1.2K tons) and Argentina (1.1K tons) were the main suppliers of frozen fish fillet imports to Spain, with a combined 48% share of total imports. the United States, Chile, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Vietnam, Iceland, Denmark, Mexico and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +6.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest frozen fish fillet suppliers to Spain were China ($11M), the Netherlands ($9.5M) and Chile ($4.7M), together accounting for 44% of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Russia, the United States, South Africa, Denmark, Portugal, Iceland, Mexico, Vietnam and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 41%.
Ecuador, with a CAGR of +8.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
