U.S. Sheep And Goat Meat Import Price per Ton May 2022
In May 2022, the sheep and goat meat price per ton amounted to $9,657 (CIF, US), falling by -8.8% against the previous month. Over the last four months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in Mar 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $10,584 per ton in Apr 2022, and then contracted in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($10,879 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($8,302 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Sheep And Goat Meat Imports
In May 2022, the amount of sheep and goat meat imported into the United States rose markedly to 16K tons, growing by 11% compared with Apr 2022 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in Mar 2022 with an increase of 46% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 16K tons in Jan 2022; however, from Feb 2022 to May 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sheep and goat meat imports stood at $154M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2022. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from Jan 2022 to May 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last four months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2022 figures, imports decreased by -7.0% against Mar 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in Mar 2022 when imports increased by 72% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $166M. From Apr 2022 to May 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Sheep And Goat Meat Imports by Country
In May 2022, Australia (11K tons) constituted the largest sheep and goat meat supplier to the United States, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, sheep and goat meat imports from Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (4.5K tons), twofold.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Australia amounted to -5.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+19.8% per month) and Mexico (+15.1% per month).
In value terms, Australia ($100M) constituted the largest supplier of sheep and goat meat to the United States, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($49M), with a 32% share of total imports.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Australia stood at -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+14.0% per month) and Mexico (+18.4% per month).
