Russia's Rolled Bitumen Article Exports Rose Treefold in Past Decade

Russia's Rolled Bitumen Article Exports
From 2010 to 2020, rolled bitumen article exports from Russia increased from 35M square meters to 140M square meters. In monetary terms, supplies grew from $61M to $154M. Russia remains the leading supplier, accounting for 24% of global rolled bitumen article exports.
In value terms, rolled bitumen articles exports shrank slightly to $154M (IndexBox estimates) in 2020. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2010 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +55.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $154M in 2019, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (26M square meters), Armenia (21M square meters) and Poland (12M square meters) were the main destinations of rolled bitumen articles exports from Russia, together comprising 43% of total exports. Lithuania, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Israel, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
From 2010 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Israel (+62.6% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($22M), Kazakhstan ($21M) and Israel ($11M) constituted the largest markets for rolled bitumen articles exported from Russia worldwide, with a combined 35% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Israel (+71.1% per year) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average rolled bitumen articles export price stood at $1.1 per square meter in 2020, falling by -29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 an increase of 23% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $2.2 per square meter. from 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Israel ($2.3 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Armenia ($0.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2010 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
