EU Rapeseed Oil Market Overcame $12B, Growing Robustly for The Third Consecutive Year

The revenue of the rapeseed oil market in the European Union amounted to $X in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded over the period under review. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of rapeseed oil consumption peaked in 2018, and is expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.
Production in the EU
In 2018, approx. X tonnes of rapeseed oil were produced in the European Union; increasing by X% against the previous year. The total output indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, the rapeseed oil production increased by +X% against 2011 indices.
Exports in the EU
The exports totaled X tonnes in 2018, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, rapeseed oil exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, rapeseed oil exports totaled $X (IndexBox estimates) in 2018.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the major exporter of rapeseed oil in the European Union, with the volume of exports finishing at X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2018. Belgium (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by France (X%), the Netherlands (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%). Denmark (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes), Austria (X tonnes), Lithuania (X tonnes) and Estonia (X tonnes) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2007 to 2018, average annual rates of growth with regard to rapeseed oil exports from Germany stood at +X%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+X%), Austria (+X%), Lithuania (+X%), Estonia (+X%) and Belgium (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest growing exporter in the European Union, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. By contrast, Denmark (-X%), France (-X%), the Netherlands (-X%), Poland (-X%) and the UK (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The UK (X%), the Netherlands (X%), Poland (X%) and France (X%) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium, the Czech Republic and Germany saw its share reduced by -X%, -X% and -X% from 2007 to 2018, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest rapeseed oil supplier in the European Union, comprising X% of total rapeseed oil exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Czech Republic ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a X% share.
Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the rapeseed oil export price in the European Union amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Overall, the rapeseed oil export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Export prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest export price was the Czech Republic ($X per tonne), while Lithuania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was attained by the Czech Republic, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports in the EU
In 2018, imports of rapeseed oil in the European Union amounted to X tonnes, shrinking by -X% against the previous year.In value terms, rapeseed oil imports amounted to $X (IndexBox estimates) in 2018.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands represented the main importing country with an import of about X tonnes, which finished at X% of total imports. Belgium (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Germany (X%), France (X%), Sweden (X%) and Austria (X%). The following importers - Lithuania (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes), Denmark (X tonnes) and Hungary (X tonnes) - together made up X% of total imports.

At the same time, Lithuania (+X%), Sweden (+X%), the UK (+X%), Hungary (+X%), Poland (+X%) and Belgium (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2018, major importing countries recorded the following import prices: in France ($X per tonne) and Germany ($X per tonne), while Lithuania ($X per tonne) and Austria ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
