In 2016, the Pakistan liquefied petroleum gas market attained a figure of X tonnes, significantly more than the figure recorded in 2015. This trend became apparent following the market decline of 2011. From 2012 to 2016, liquefied petroleum gas consumption in Pakistan posted an upwards trend.
In 2015, the Pakistan liquefied petroleum gas market was based on domestic production (X% in physical terms), hovewer, due to the growing demand for liquefied petroleum gas, imports increased significantly, resulting in turn in an escalating share of imports in consumption in 2016 (X% in physical terms), ' proving that Pakistan remains dependent on the shipments from abroad.'
In 2016, per capita liquefied petroleum gas consumption in Pakistan was estimated at X kg/person, with an annual increase of +X% from 2007 to 2016. In value terms, per capita liquefied petroleum gas consumption in Pakistan amounted to X USD/person, with a CAGR of +X% (IndexBox estimates).
The LPG Market in Pakistan Is Expected to Continue Its Extensive Growth
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) constitutes a compound combustible mix of hydrocarbon gases; it is frequently used as fuel in heating appliances, cooking equipment and vehicles. The main areas of LPG consumption can be found in the residential and commercial sectors. LPG often plays a' supportive function within a national economy, by providing cost-effective and ecologically-minded fuel to the middle and lower class of consumer, thereby generating tangible government revenue and providing employment to millions overall.'
The increasing amount of investment into LPG production projects in Pakistan will enhance supply growth. Steady population growth and an increasing demand for energy, particularly given the shortgage of natural gas availability in rural areas will promote enhanced LPG consumption.'
According to these projections, the Pakistan LPG market is expected to grow gradually in the coming years. Market performance is projected to accelerate with an anticipated CAGR of +X% for the period from 2017 to 2025, which is expected to lead the market volume to X tonnes by 2025.
Pakistan Continues to Rapidly Increase LPG Production
The production of liquefied petroleum gas reached X tonnes in 2016, with a steady upward trend being observed over the last five years. Over this period, production recovered, following a steady decline observed' from 2007-2011. Over the past three years, production growth has regained pace, increasing at a double-digit rate against the enhanced development of the country's production facilities, with the commissioning of production capacity by the industry's key players.' '
Liquefied petroleum gas production, from natural gas plants (X tonnes) and liquefied petroleum gas, from petroleum refineries (X tonnes) assumed a X% and X% share, respectively, in total production. Liquefied petroleum gas, from petroleum refineries strengthened its position in terms of the production structure in Pakistan by +X percentage points, while liquefied petroleum gas, from natural gas plants saw its share reduced by the same extent.'
Approx. X% of LPG Consumption in Pakistan Was Imported
Driven by a growing demand, the share of imports in total liquefied petroleum gas supply in Pakistan increased significantly over the last nine years (from X% in 2007 to X% in 2016, based on tonnes). This indicates the strong appeal of the Pakistan market for foreign suppliers, particularly given that the Pakistan authorities are not currently impeding import expansion, in a bid to reduce LPG prices through supply and competition growth.'
Afghanistan Was the only Consumer of Pakistan Iiquefied Petroleum Gas Exports
Exports of liquefied petroleum gas from Pakistan were extremely irregular and negligible both in terms of volume and value, except for only 2007 and 2008. Therefore, Afghanistan (X tonnes) appeared as the only consumer of liquefied petroleum gas from Pakistan in 2015; in addition, Afghanistan was the only importer from Pakistan over the period under review. No data on exports was recorded in 2016.
