Price of Chewing Gum in the Netherlands Hits Low of $2,873 per Ton
Netherlands Chewing Gum Export Price in January 2023
In January 2023, the chewing gum price stood at $2,873 per ton (FOB, Netherlands), dropping by -60.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 9.4% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $7,829 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to January 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($9,687 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($894 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Netherlands Chewing Gum Exports
In January 2023, chewing gum exports from the Netherlands surged to 1.3K tons, with an increase of 178% against the previous month. In general, exports saw prominent growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chewing gum exports rose rapidly to $3.6M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate increase from January 2022 to January 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2023 figures, exports increased by +26.9% against October 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 115% against the previous month.
Netherlands Chewing Gum Exports by Country
Belgium (889 tons) was the main destination for chewing gum exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, chewing gum exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (98 tons), ninefold. France (47 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.7% share.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Belgium stood at +23.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.5% per month) and France (-0.8% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for chewing gum exported from the Netherlands were Belgium ($795K), Germany ($680K) and Poland ($419K), together comprising 53% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United States, France, Denmark and Spain, which together accounted for a further 30%.
the United States, with a CAGR of +89.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
