Mexico Wrapping Papers Import Price in December 2022
In December 2022, the wrapping papers price amounted to $1,405 per ton (CIF, Mexico), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 111% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,714 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to December 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($1,393 per ton) and Canada ($1,364 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,328 per ton) and Sweden ($1,342 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mexico Wrapping Papers Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In December 2022, the product with the highest price was paper; greaseproof papers, in rolls or sheets ($2,339 per ton), while the price for kraft paper and paperboard; uncoated, unbleached, weight 150g/m2 or less, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803 ($1,241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by paper and paperboard, corrugated (with or without glued flat surface sheets), creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated, in rolls or sheets other than those of heading no. 4803 or 4818 (+10.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mexico Wrapping Papers Imports
In December 2022, after two months of decline, there was growth in supplies from abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard, when their volume increased by 0.5% to 38K tons. In general, imports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 102% month-to-month.
In value terms, wrapping papers imports totaled $53M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 with an increase of 13% against the previous month.
Mexico Wrapping Papers Imports by Type
Paper and paperboard, corrugated (with or without glued flat surface sheets), creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated, in rolls or sheets other than those of heading no. 4803 or 4818 (16K tons), unbleached sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm (12K tons) and sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm (3.3K tons) were the main products of wrapping papers imports to Mexico, together accounting for 84% of total imports. Kraft paper and paperboard; uncoated, unbleached, weight 150g/m2 or less, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803, kraft paper and paperboard; uncoated, bleached, weight 150g/m2 or less, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803, paper and paperboard, coated on one or both sides with kaolin "china clay" or other inorganic substances, with or without a binder, and with no other coating, whether or not surface-coloured, surface-decorated or printed, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size, paper; glassine and other glazed transparent or translucent papers, in rolls or sheets, sulphite wrapping paper, kraft paper and paperboard, bleached uniformly throughout the mass and containing > 95% chemically processed wood fibres by weight in relation to the total fibre content, coated on one or both sides with kaolin or other inorganic substances, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size, weighing
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by paper; greaseproof papers, in rolls or sheets (with a CAGR of +20.6%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the most traded types of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard in Mexico were paper and paperboard, corrugated (with or without glued flat surface sheets), creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated, in rolls or sheets other than those of heading no. 4803 or 4818 ($24M), unbleached sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm ($15M) and sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm ($4.6M), with a combined 83% share of total imports. These products were followed by kraft paper and paperboard; uncoated, bleached, weight 150g/m2 or less, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803, kraft paper and paperboard; uncoated, unbleached, weight 150g/m2 or less, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803, paper and paperboard, coated on one or both sides with kaolin "china clay" or other inorganic substances, with or without a binder, and with no other coating, whether or not surface-coloured, surface-decorated or printed, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size, paper; glassine and other glazed transparent or translucent papers, in rolls or sheets, sulphite wrapping paper, kraft paper and paperboard, bleached uniformly throughout the mass and containing > 95% chemically processed wood fibres by weight in relation to the total fibre content, coated on one or both sides with kaolin or other inorganic substances, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size, weighing
Mexico Wrapping Papers Imports by Country
In December 2022, the United States (25K tons) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping papers to Mexico, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, wrapping papers imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (7.4K tons), threefold. Canada (3.3K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.9% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the United States totaled -9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Sweden (+2.7% per month) and Canada (+2.7% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($35M) constituted the largest supplier of wrapping papers to Mexico, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($9.9M), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Canada, with an 8.6% share.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from the United States amounted to -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Sweden (+6.0% per month) and Canada (+4.0% per month).
