U.S. Mattress Import Price June 2022
In June 2022, the average mattress import price amounted to $96 per unit, surging by 4.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $98 per unit in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($117 per unit), while the price for China ($42 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Mattress Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($102 per unit), while the price for mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics stood at $83 per unit.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (+0.4%).
U.S. Mattress Imports
In June 2022, mattress imports into the United States reduced notably to 1.4M units, declining by -18.6% on the month before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 22% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.7M units. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mattress imports fell rapidly to $131M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 21% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $158M. From April 2022 to June 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Mattress Imports by Type
In June 2022, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics (945K units) constituted the largest type of mattress supplied to the United States, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics (414K units), twofold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics stood at -2.9%.
In value terms, mattresses of cellular rubber or plastics ($96M) constituted the largest type of mattress supplied to the United States, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics ($35M), with a 26% share of total imports.
U.S. Mattress Imports by Country
Indonesia (366K units), Mexico (288K units) and Kosovo (135K units) were the main suppliers of mattress imports to the United States, together accounting for 58% of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese), Poland, Spain, Slovenia, Turkey, Vietnam, the Philippines and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($35M), Mexico ($32M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($13M) were the largest mattress suppliers to the United States, with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Kosovo, Spain, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, the Philippines, Vietnam and China, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +34.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
