Malaysia's Recovered Paper Imports Ramp Up Sharply to Over 1.1M Tonnes

Malaysia's Recovered Paper Imports by Country
Recovered paper imports into Malaysia surged to 1.1M tonnes in 2020, jumping by 90% against 2019. In value terms, supplies surged to $162M (IndexBox estimates).
The UK (331K tonnes), the U.S. (256K tonnes) and Singapore (93K tonnes) were the main suppliers of recovered paper to Malaysia, together comprising 63% of total supplies.
In 2020, the UK increased exports to Malaysia eightfold, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($54M), the U.S. ($39M) and Singapore ($15M) appeared to be the largest recovered paper suppliers to Malaysia, together comprising 67% of total imports.
The average recovered paper import price stood at $151 per tonne in 2020, reducing by -4.5% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Italy ($188 per tonne), while the price for Belgium ($107 per tonne) was amongst the lowest. In 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
