U.S. Lentil Export Price per Ton June 2022

In June 2022, the lentil price per ton amounted to $924 (FOB, US), reducing by -4.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 8.3% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,004 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($1,503 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($669 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Lentil Exports

In June 2022, after three months of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of lentils, when their volume decreased by -32.6% to 14K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 39% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 20K tons, and then reduced notably in the following month.

In value terms, lentil exports shrank notably to $13M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when exports increased by 51% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $20M, and then dropped rapidly in the following month.

U.S. Lentil Exports by Country

Spain (2.6K tons), Canada (2.1K tons) and Mexico (1.7K tons) were the main destinations of lentil exports from the United States, together accounting for 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, Benin, Colombia, China, Belgium, Sudan, the Philippines, Burundi, Brazil and Morocco, which together accounted for a further 40%.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Burundi (with a CAGR of +3,299.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for lentil exported from the United States were Canada ($2.2M), Spain ($2.2M) and Mexico ($1.7M), with a combined 48% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Benin, Greece, China, Colombia, Brazil, Sudan, Belgium, Morocco, the Philippines and Burundi, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Burundi, with a CAGR of +3,299.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
