U.S. Knitted Fabric Price Picks up Slightly to $6.3K per Ton
U.S. Knitted Fabric Import Price per Ton August 2022
In August 2022, the knitted fabric price per ton stood at $6.3K, picking up by 4.3% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in August 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($12.9K per ton), while the price for China ($4.8K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Knitted Fabric Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of heading 60.01 and 60.02, of a width not exceeding 30 cm, ($12.5K per ton), while the price for fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of headings 60.01 to 60.04 ($5.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics of a width exceeding 30 cm, other than those of heading 60.01, containing by weight 5% or more of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread (+4.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Knitted Fabric Imports
For the third month in a row, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of knitted or crocheted fabrics, which decreased by -7% to 15K tons in August 2022. Overall, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 23% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 22K tons. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, knitted fabric imports declined to $97M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 20% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $130M in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Knitted Fabric Imports by Type
Fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of headings 60.01 to 60.04 (7.8K tons), fabrics; warp knit (including those made on galloon knitting machines), other than those of headings 60.01 to 60.04 (4.8K tons) and fabrics; pile fabrics, including "long pile" fabrics and terry fabrics, knitted or crocheted (1.5K tons) were the main products of knitted fabric imports to the United States, together accounting for 91% of total imports. These products were followed by fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics of a width exceeding 30 cm, other than those of heading 60.01, containing by weight 5% or more of elastomeric yarn or rubber thread, fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of heading 60.01 and 60.02, of a width not exceeding 30 cm, and fabrics; knitted or crocheted, other than those of heading no. 6001, which together accounted for a further 9.1%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of heading 60.01 and 60.02, of a width not exceeding 30 cm, (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, fabrics; knitted or crocheted fabrics, other than those of headings 60.01 to 60.04 ($42M), fabrics; warp knit (including those made on galloon knitting machines), other than those of headings 60.01 to 60.04 ($26M) and fabrics; pile fabrics, including "long pile" fabrics and terry fabrics, knitted or crocheted ($16M) constituted the most imported types of knitted or crocheted fabrics in the United States, with a combined 86% share of total imports.
U.S. Knitted Fabric Imports by Country
China (5.1K tons), India (3.8K tons) and South Korea (2.5K tons) were the main suppliers of knitted fabric imports to the United States, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Israel, Taiwan (Chinese), Canada and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +3.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest knitted fabric suppliers to the United States were China ($24M), India ($22M) and South Korea ($15M), together comprising 63% of total imports. Israel, Taiwan (Chinese), Canada and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +4.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
