Italy's Rennet Price Grows Markedly to $23.7 per kg
Italy Rennet Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the rennet price stood at $23,676 per ton (CIF, Italy), with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated slight growth from February 2022 to February 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, rennet import price increased by +39.0% against November 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 78% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $28,066 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to February 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($25,735 per ton), while the price for Turkey amounted to $2,954 per ton.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Italy Rennet Imports
In February 2023, imports of rennet and concentrates thereof into Italy fell remarkably to 32 tons, which is down by -26.3% against the previous month. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 65% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 73 tons. From August 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rennet imports contracted remarkably to $756K (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 194% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.6M. From August 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Italy Rennet Imports by Country
In February 2023, Denmark (29 tons) was the main supplier of rennet to Italy, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, rennet imports from Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (3 tons), tenfold.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Denmark stood at -4.1%.
In value terms, Denmark ($744K) constituted the largest supplier of rennet to Italy, comprising 98% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($8.9K), with a 1.2% share of total imports.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from Denmark amounted to -2.3%.
