Pimenta Pepper Price Stands at $2,842 per Ton
India Pimenta Pepper Export Price in November 2022
In November 2022, the pimenta pepper price amounted to $2,842 per ton (FOB, India), stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to November 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,023 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to November 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2022, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($4,036 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($1,489 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
India Pimenta Pepper Exports
In November 2022, approximately 35K tons of pimenta pepper were exported from India; with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from January 2022 to November 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last ten-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2022 figures, exports decreased by -17.0% against September 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 when exports increased by 55% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 48K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to November 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pimenta pepper exports reached $98M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. In general, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from January 2022 to November 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.4% over the last ten months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2022 figures, exports decreased by -18.0% against September 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 with an increase of 52% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 120K tons in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to November 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Thailand (7.4K tons), Indonesia (6K tons) and China (5.9K tons) were the main destinations of pimenta pepper exports from India, together comprising 56% of total exports. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the United States, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +44.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for pimenta pepper exported from India were Thailand ($21M), Indonesia ($18M) and China ($16M), with a combined 56% share of total exports. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the United States, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Nepal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +32.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
