India's Cotton Linters Price Stands at $600 per Ton, Fluctuating Wildly over 2022
India Cotton Linters Export Price in November 2022
In November 2022, the cotton linters price stood at $600 per ton (FOB, India), approximately equating the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to November 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 63% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $602 per ton, leveling off in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($631 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka stood at $126 per ton.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In November 2022, the amount of cotton linters exported from India contracted to 443 tons, with a decrease of -14.1% compared with the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 with an increase of 164% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 2.5K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to November 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton linters exports shrank to $266K (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. Overall, exports faced a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 107% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 1.5K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to November 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Japan (416 tons) was the main destination for cotton linters exports from India, accounting for a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton linters exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sri Lanka (28 tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Japan amounted to -8.9%.
In value terms, Japan ($262K) remains the key foreign market for cotton linters exports from India, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($3.5K), with a 1.3% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Japan stood at -7.4%.
