Headphone Price in Germany Grows Sharply to $12.0 per Unit

Germany Headphone Import Price in October 2022

In October 2022, the headphone price amounted to $12.0 per unit (CIF, Germany), jumping by 37% against the previous month. Over the last nine-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2022, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($35.9 per unit), while the price for China ($3.4 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Germany Headphone Imports

In October 2022, overseas purchases of headphones increased by 3.6% to 17M units, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 with an increase of 31% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in October 2022.

In value terms, headphone imports surged to $198M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2022. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from January 2022 to October 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.7% against August 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when imports increased by 46% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in October 2022.

Germany Headphone Imports by Country

China (6.4M units), the Netherlands (4M units) and the Czech Republic (1.6M units) were the main suppliers of headphone imports to Germany, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ireland, France, Poland and Italy, which together accounted for a further 17%.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +9.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($56M), the Netherlands ($45M) and Ireland ($23M) constituted the largest headphone suppliers to Germany, together accounting for 63% of total imports.

The growth of the headphone market in Germany is attributed to the increasing demand for headphones from various end-use industries such as gaming, music, movies, and videos. Moreover, the growing trend of online content consumption is also driving the demand for headphones in Germany. German consumers are also becoming more discerning when it comes to audio quality, with many now willing to invest in premium headphones that offer superior sound quality.

So far, the German headphone market has been largely dominated by online retailers, but this is beginning to change as brick-and-mortar stores start to stock more premium brands. In particular, specialist audio stores are starting to see an increase in sales, as consumers look for expert advice on choosing the right pair of headphones.
