France Ramped Up Fungicide and Bactericide Exports to $1.6B

France succeeded in expanding its exports of fungicides, bactericides and other treatments for seeds in the past decade. From 2010 to 2020, exports increased from 89K tonnes to 162K tonnes in physical terms, or from $0.9B to $1.6B in value terms. Germany, Italy and the UK represent the significant importers of French fungicides, bactericides and other treatments for seeds, accounting for 36% of the export volume. Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing fungicide and bactericide importer from France.

Seed Treatment Exports from France

France's exports of fungicides, bactericides and other treatments for seeds amounted to 162K tonnes in 2020, picking up by +4% compared with the year before. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2010 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports reduced to $1.6B (IndexBox estimates) in 2020. Total exports indicated a substantial expansion from 2010 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade.

Germany (22K tonnes), Italy (20K tonnes) and the UK (17K tonnes) were the main destinations of fungicide and bactericide exports from France, with a combined 36% share of total exports. Poland, Brazil, Russia, Spain, the U.S., Bangladesh, Denmark, Hungary, Romania and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

From 2010 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading countries of destination, was attained by Denmark, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for fungicide and bactericide exported from France were Brazil ($183M), Germany ($166M) and the UK ($154M), with a combined 31% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, Poland, Italy, Spain, Romania, the U.S., Hungary, Denmark, Turkey and Bangladesh, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In 2020, the average export price for fungicides, bactericides and treatments for seeds amounted to $9,956 per tonne, down by -4.3% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($20,874 per tonne), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($1,650 per tonne) was amongst the lowest. From 2010 to 2020, the most notable growth rate in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the U.S., while the prices for the other significant destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
