This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price).
Production in France
In 2018, approx. 14K tonnes of frozen fish fillet were produced in France; surging by 5.8% against the previous year. Overall, the total output indicated prominent growth from 2014 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last four-year period. Based on 2018 figures, frozen fish fillet production increased by +65.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 56% y-o-y.
Exports from France
In 2018, approx. 12K tonnes of frozen fish fillet were exported from France; waning by -2.1% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2014 to 2018.
In value terms, frozen fish fillet exports amounted to $93M (IndexBox estimates).
Exports by Country
Germany (3.1K tonnes), South Korea (1.7K tonnes) and Italy (1.6K tonnes) were the main destinations of frozen fish fillet exports from France, together comprising 52% of total exports.
From 2014 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Korea, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($18M), Germany ($16M) and Italy ($13M) were the largest markets for frozen fish fillet exported from France worldwide, with a combined 51% share of total exports.
Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the average frozen fish fillet export price amounted to $7,526 per tonne, surging by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the last four-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was South Korea ($10,776 per tonne), while the average price for exports to Germany ($5,124 per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports into France
In 2018, approx. 165K tonnes of frozen fish fillet were imported into France; remaining stable against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2014 to 2018.
In value terms, frozen fish fillet imports totaled $890M (IndexBox estimates).
Imports by Country
In 2018, China (40K tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of frozen fish fillet to France, accounting for a 24% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen fish fillet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the U.S. (17K tonnes), twofold. South Korea (14K tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 8.4% share.
From 2014 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the U.S. (+6.3% per year) and South Korea (+24.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average frozen fish fillet import price stood at $5,382 per tonne in 2018, flattening at the previous year. In general, the frozen fish fillet import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 5% year-to-year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Poland ($8,315 per tonne), while the price for Namibia ($3,939 per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Viet Nam, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
