Table Flatware Price in France Slumps to $8,991 per Ton After Two Consecutive Months of Contraction

France Table Flatware Import Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the table flatware price stood at $8,991 per ton (CIF, France), with a decrease of -10.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 23% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $11,535 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to February 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($21,569 per ton), while the price for India ($5,337 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

France Table Flatware Import Prices by Type

France Table Flatware Imports

In February 2023, supplies from abroad of table flatware increased by 1.9% to 899 tons for the first time since September 2022, thus ending a four-month declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 27% m-o-m.

In value terms, table flatware imports shrank to $8.1M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 24% m-o-m.

France Table Flatware Imports by Country

In February 2023, China (568 tons) constituted the largest table flatware supplier to France, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, table flatware imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (70 tons), eightfold. Germany (62 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China stood at -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Belgium (+1.4% per month) and Germany (+4.5% per month).

In value terms, China ($4M) constituted the largest supplier of table flatware to France, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($903K), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from China totaled -3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (+2.4% per month) and Germany (+3.3% per month).
