Sparkling Wine Price in France Peaks at $22 per Litre
France Sparkling Wine Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the sparkling wine price stood at $22 per litre (FOB, France), with an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in August 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($42 per litre), while the average price for exports to Russia ($2.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
France Sparkling Wine Exports
In September 2022, exports of sparkling wine from France dropped rapidly to 13M litres, with a decrease of -31.1% against August 2022 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 24% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 22M litres in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sparkling wine exports shrank notably to $347M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the period from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 19% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 489M litres in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
France Sparkling Wine Exports by Country
the United States (5.1M litres) was the main destination for sparkling wine exports from France, accounting for a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, sparkling wine exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (1.9M litres), threefold. The UK (1.6M litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +9.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.3% per month) and the UK (-2.1% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($133M) remains the key foreign market for sparkling wine exports from France, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($37M), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.2% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at +15.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the UK (-2.6% per month) and Japan (+10.6% per month).
