Soap Price in France Declines for Two Consecutive Months, Bottoming at $3,862 per Ton

France Soap Export Price in August 2022

In August 2022, the soap price amounted to $3,862 per ton (FOB, France), reducing by -8.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 20% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,774 per ton. From April 2022 to August 2022, the the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($9,891 per ton), while Spain ($2,097 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

France Soap Exports

For the third consecutive month, France recorded growth in overseas shipments of soap, which increased by 5.9% to 16K tons in August 2022. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 8.5% m-o-m. the France exports peaked in August 2022.

In value terms, soap exports shrank to $64M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 30% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $73M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

France Soap Exports by Country

In August 2022, Germany (48K tons), China (43K tons), Poland (32K tons), Italy (25K tons) and the United States (25K tons) represented the largest exporter of soap in the world, committing 60% of total export. The Netherlands (15K tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 5.4% share, followed by Canada (4.5%). The following exporters - the UK (12K tons), Spain (12K tons), Japan (6K tons), Belgium (5.8K tons), the Czech Republic (5.2K tons) and Brazil (4.7K tons) - together made up 16% of total exports.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($130M), the United States ($95M) and China ($94M) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in August 2022, together accounting for 38% of total exports. Poland, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Japan, with a CAGR of +7.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
