France's Rum Price Declines Slightly to $6.5 per Litre, Fluctuating Wildly over 2022
France Rum Export Price in October 2022
In October 2022, the rum price stood at $6.5 per litre (FOB, France), stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 22% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $9.4 per litre. From June 2022 to October 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($12.5 per litre), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1.6 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
France Rum Exports
For the third month in a row, France recorded growth in shipments abroad of rum, which increased by 24% to 2.4M litres in October 2022. In general, total exports indicated notable growth from January 2022 to October 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2022 figures, exports increased by +112.3% against May 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when exports increased by 40% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in October 2022.
In value terms, rum exports surged to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.2% from January 2022 to October 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
France Rum Exports by Country
Spain (578K litres), Germany (312K litres) and the United States (197K litres) were the main destinations of rum exports from France, together accounting for 46% of total exports. Italy, Belgium, Latvia, the Netherlands, Japan, the Czech Republic, Burkina Faso, the UK and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
From January 2022 to October 2022, the biggest increases were in Latvia (with a CAGR of +33.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($2.5M), Germany ($1.8M) and Spain ($951K) constituted the largest markets for rum exported from France worldwide, with a combined 34% share of total exports. Italy, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Latvia, the Netherlands, the UK, Japan, Australia and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +32.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
