France's Sewing Machine Unit Price Drops 35% to $54.1
France Household Sewing Machine Import Price in January 2023
In January 2023, the household sewing machine price stood at $54.1 per unit (CIF, France), reducing by -35.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 an increase of 81% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $117 per unit in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to January 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($276 per unit), while the price for China ($10.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

France Household Sewing Machine Imports
In January 2023, approximately 29K units of household sewing machines were imported into France; which is down by -52% against December 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 168% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 127K units. From September 2022 to January 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, household sewing machine imports dropped rapidly to $1.6M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Overall, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when imports increased by 71% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 5.1M units in December 2022, and then fell remarkably in the following month.
France Household Sewing Machine Imports by Country
In January 2023, China (16K units) constituted the largest supplier of household sewing machine to France, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, household sewing machine imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (5.4K units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (2.9K units), with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China stood at -1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-3.2% per month) and Italy (+1.1% per month).
In value terms, Italy ($562K), Germany ($364K) and Vietnam ($189K) constituted the largest household sewing machine suppliers to France, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Taiwan (Chinese), Spain, Poland and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +24.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
