COVID Pandemic Instigates Global Vitamin Trade Growth

Global Vitamin Exports by Country
In 2020, global vitamin exports skyrocketed to 584K tonnes, rising by 18% on the year before. In value terms, supplies surged to $7.7B (IndexBox estimates).
China dominates vitamin exports structure, resulting at 352K tonnes, which was near 60% of total exports in 2020. The U.S. (32K tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (30K tonnes) and Germany (27K tonnes). All these countries together took approx. 15% share of total supplies. India (21K tonnes), France (19K tonnes), Switzerland (16K tonnes), Belgium (14K tonnes), Australia (14K tonnes) and Singapore (11K tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.
In value terms, China ($3.2B) remains the largest vitamin supplier worldwide, comprising 42% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the U.S. ($894M), with a 12% share of global value. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.5% share.
In China, vitamin exports increased at annual rate of +19.4% in 2020. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following annual exports growth rates: the U.S. (+8.6% per year) and Germany (+15.0% per year).
The average vitamin export price stood at $13,168 per tonne in 2020, with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Australia ($28,982 per tonne), while Belgium ($9,138 per tonne) was amongst the lowest. In 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
