U.S. Cocoa Butter Price per Ton May 2022
In May 2022, the cocoa butter price per ton amounted to $4,826 (CIF, US), remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in Feb 2022 an increase of 4% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,970 per ton. From Mar 2022 to May 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($5,707 per ton) and Brazil ($5,112 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($4,230 per ton) and India ($4,282 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Cocoa Butter Imports
After two months of growth, overseas purchases of cocoa butter decreased by -1.4% to 10K tons in May 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate increase from Jan 2022 to May 2022. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at 10K tons in Apr 2022, and then shrank slightly in the following month.
In value terms, cocoa butter imports reduced to $49M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2022. Overall, total imports indicated noticeable growth from Jan 2022 to May 2022. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in Mar 2022 when imports increased by 50% against the previous month. Imports peaked at $50M in Apr 2022, and then declined slightly in the following month.
U.S. Cocoa Butter Imports by Country
In May 2022, Indonesia (4.4K tons) constituted the largest cocoa butter supplier to the United States, accounting for a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, cocoa butter imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (1.7K tons), threefold. Peru (919 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9% share.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Indonesia stood at +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+8.4% per month) and Peru (+1.7% per month).
In value terms, Indonesia ($21M) constituted the largest supplier of cocoa butter to the United States, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($8.3M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with an 8.8% share.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia stood at +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+10.3% per month) and Peru (+1.7% per month).
