China's Soap in Bars Price Slumps 12%, Averaging $1,882 per Ton
China Soap In Bars Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the soap in bars price amounted to $1,882 per ton (FOB, China), with a decrease of -11.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 10% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,131 per ton in August 2022, and then dropped in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($3,512 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($915 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Soap In Bars Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In December 2021, the product with the highest price was soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use ($2,874 per ton), while the average price for exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use totaled $1,766 per ton.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: soap in bars other than for toilet use (+0.4%).
China Soap In Bars Exports
In September 2022, approximately 32K tons of soap and organic surface-active products in bars were exported from China; waning by -3.8% compared with August 2022 figures. In general, exports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 43% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 39K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, soap in bars exports reduced remarkably to $60M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 58% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 81K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Soap In Bars Exports by Type
Soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use (35K tons) was the largest type of soap in bars exported from China, accounting for a 96% share of total exports. Moreover, soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use exceeded the volume of the second product type, soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use (1.6K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use totaled -3.0%.
In value terms, soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use ($62M) remains the largest type of soap in bars exported from China, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use ($4.5M), with a 6.8% share of total exports.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of soap and organic surface-active products in bars other than for toilet use stood at -2.5%.
China Soap In Bars Exports by Country
The United States (7.3K tons), Australia (3.9K tons) and Japan (2.5K tons) were the main destinations of soap in bars exports from China, with a combined 43% share of total exports. The Philippines, Peru, Chile, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, the UK and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in South Africa (with a CAGR of +20.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($12M) remains the key foreign market for soap in bars exports from China, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($6.1M), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States stood at -2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Australia (+2.7% per month) and Japan (-2.8% per month).
