China's Hand Saw Exports Dip 56% to $7.2M on Average in Feb. 2023

In February 2023, approximately 1.1K tons of hand saws were exported from China; which is down by -63.4% compared with January 2023 figures. In general, exports recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 28% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 3.2K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to February 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hand saw exports dropped remarkably to $7.2M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when exports increased by 31% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 18K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to February 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Vietnam (124 tons), Russia (102 tons) and the United States (98 tons) were the main destinations of hand saw exports from China, with a combined 30% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Mexico, Kazakhstan, France, Poland, Germany, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 33%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +13.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for hand saw exported from China were Vietnam ($1.4M), the United States ($718K) and Russia ($427K), together comprising 35% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Myanmar, Mexico, Poland, Indonesia and Kazakhstan, which together accounted for a further 28%.
Among the main countries of destination, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In February 2023, the hand saw price stood at $6,636 per ton (FOB, China), surging by 19% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($14,366 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($2,539 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
